Should I hire a copywriter or use AI?

Hire a copywriter or use AI?

That’s a huge debate at the moment.

My answer?

Use AI, if you want. I can’t stop you. People use AI because it’s quick, easy, and doesn’t cost them a penny. And if you’re absolutely not for being persuaded, I can’t change that.

But I’d like you to let me try.

The truth about hiring a copywriter

Writing is deemed a skill anyone can do, so why bother using a copywriter?

I need a copywriter, hir a copywriter or use ai

But here’s what I need to tell you: Copywriting isn’t a skill just anyone can do.

Just like being a plasterer, plumber, electrician, web designer or mechanic isn’t.

A copywriter knows how to write persuasive copy for web pages, articles, posts, emails, product descriptions, calls to action — you name it, they’ll write it better than a bot or anyone who isn’t a copywriter can.

What a human copywriter can do that AI can’t

AI will give you copy that’s “good enough”, but why would you want something that’s just “good enough” for a business YOU started from scratch?

It might write something in seconds, but it’s so full of cliche junk it’s pretty much unusable.

And it’s really obvious that it’s AI, and as much as the person reading your copy might use AI, they’ll tut, roll their eyes and think, “They couldn’t even be arsed putting time and effort into words for their own business“.

The reality is, people hate AI copy.

Why?

Because it doesn’t really connect on a human level, unlike when a person writes it, and when that heppens, they bring all this to the table:

  • A TOV that sounds like you
  • Proper humour, sarcasm, wit and timing that AI simply doesn’t get
  • Understanding your audience, knowing what they care about and what they don’t
  • Nuance
  • Original ideas, not recycled crap
  • Bringing out your personality and values in a way people remember
  • Knowing when something is funny, relevant, awkward or in bad taste
  • Ability to rework your copy for different platforms without losing your TOV
  • Finding the small details that make your business stand out
  • Caring about the result

Humanity in copywriting matters

The quirks, humour, sarcasm and the everyday insanity of what it means to be human in how we talk and connect with others are things AI can never understand.

hire a copywriter or use ai

You’ve poured your heart, soul and personality into your brand, yet you’re trusting something with none of these attributes to tell the world about you?

It’s not about getting a bot to write something that’s “good enough”.

Good enough should never be good enough.

Why “Good Enough” costs you more

Good enough” ends up costing you more in the long run.

I can easily look it up on YouTube on how to put shelves up on the wall and give it a go myself. But I’m no good with a drill. I’m gonna wreck the walls. And if I even manage to get the shelves up, what’s gonna happen when I put my stuff on them?

Getting AI to write the copy (or do your images for you) is no different.

We’ve all seen the posts:

  • It gets maths wrong
  • It thinks Blackberry has 3 Bs
  • It gives people 7 fingers

Hell, I’ve even seen someone’s post where they asked it to extract the text from a photo and use it in a post.

Guess what happened?

It made any old rubbish up.

If you want a decent job that won’t cost you more down the line, either to fix or in terms of losing leads and sales, hire a professional copywriter from the start.

It might seem like a lot of money right now, but your future bank balance will thank you for it.

So, do you hire a copywriter or use AI?

copywriter vs ai

AI doesn’t care about you or your business.

A real, human copywriter does.

AI is here to stay, and people will use it, regardless of what I say.

But if you want human heart, soul, personality and fun pouring into your copy, you know where I am.

Or, if you have AI copy that you’re happy with but it needs more personality adding to it, I can rework it for you so it reads like a proper, human being has written it.

Just send me an email or book a free discovery call with me to see how I can help.

Until next time

Matt
